Cuomo Eyes NYC Mayoral Run Amid Adams' Legal Troubles, But Will He Face Opposition?

Cuomo Considers NYC Mayoral Bid as Adams Faces Calls to Step Down
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly considering a return to politics by running for Mayor of New York City. This comes as current Mayor Eric Adams faces mounting pressure to step down after being indicted on federal charges.
Cuomo's potential run would likely face significant opposition from unions, business groups, and established political leaders, according to Politico. State Senate Finance Chair Liz Krueger voiced concerns about Cuomo's potential for conflict with the legislature and governor, stating that "there’s eight million more people to talk to" about who should be the next mayor.

Cuomo's potential bid is not the only one being discussed. New York State Attorney General Letitia James also has supporters within the city's political circles. New York Democratic chair Jay Jacobs, while not endorsing any candidate, acknowledged the possibility of James running for mayor, stating, "This is a what if. The mayor hasn’t gone anywhere."
Concerns about Cuomo's return to power stem from his highly organized team and his history of strong-willed leadership. He was elected to three terms as governor but resigned in 2021 after a sexual harassment scandal. Despite the controversy, some believe Cuomo could be a formidable candidate, potentially driven by a desire to restore competence and leadership.
Cuomo's spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, dismissed talk of a mayoral run as premature, suggesting it was a tactic by Governor Kathy Hochul to avoid a potential challenge from James. He highlighted Cuomo's achievements in office and emphasized his commitment to putting "New Yorkers over politics and the politicians."
The mayor's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
