Contractor Behind Fort Greene Brownstone Collapse Has History of Construction Accidents

Contractor Cited for Fort Greene Brownstone Wall Collapse, Not His First Construction Debacle

Vadem Brodsky, the owner of the contracting firm Endo Services, has been cited for multiple construction violations, including a serious incident in 2019 that left a young woman with severe brain injuries.

In the most recent incident, Brodsky's crew accidentally broke through the wall of an adjacent brownstone during renovations, causing a partial collapse of both buildings. This occurred on an upscale block of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, where brownstones sell for millions of dollars.

The incident forced an 84-year-old resident to evacuate her home and stay in a hotel while the building is deemed structurally compromised and in danger of collapse.

Brodsky's history of construction accidents raises concerns about his safety practices. In 2019, he was involved in a scaffolding collapse at a condo project in Gowanus, Brooklyn. A poorly secured scaffold fell onto a patron enjoying brunch, causing a catastrophic brain injury. Brodsky was cited for failing to provide documentation of his oversight of the property leading up to the incident.

This is not the first time Brodsky's company has been cited for safety violations. In 2022, Endo Services was cited for failing to file a report to the Department of Buildings (DOB) after a worker was injured on the job. The company did not appear at a hearing regarding the violation and was fined $12,500. As of Monday, DOB has no record of the fine being paid.

The DOB has issued four violations against Endo Services and one against Jacob Rybner, a licensed superintendent of construction, for the recent incident on South Portland Avenue. The agency is currently investigating the incident and may take further action.

Brodsky's continued disregard for safety regulations raises serious concerns about the safety of his projects and the well-being of the public.
