Coney Island Cyclone Closed After Malfunction, Leaving Riders Disappointed
The iconic Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster has been shut down for repairs after a malfunction during a ride, leaving visitors disappointed. City inspectors from the Department of Buildings (DOB) were called to Luna Park on Thursday afternoon after reports of the ride stopping.
What happened?
The amusement park's technical team reported that operators discovered a crack in the chain sprocket located in the ride's motor room while the Cyclone was ascending. The ride was immediately stopped, and several passengers were safely removed. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
What's next?
The DOB issued two violations to Luna Park for failing to maintain the ride and for failing to notify the agency about the incident. The Cyclone will remain closed until repairs are completed and the DOB gives its approval after a re-inspection.
The incident has left many, including Marcie and Jeff Levine who planned to celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary on the ride, disappointed.
About the Cyclone
