
Central Park Muggings on the Rise, Teens Arrested
Central Park has seen a concerning spike in robberies, with incidents increasing by 200% this year compared to last. Three teenagers are in custody after allegedly mugging three people in the park early Tuesday morning. The suspects, aged 14, 16, and 17, approached their victims at Grand Army Plaza and allegedly simulated having a gun before stealing AirPods and a chain. A fourth teen remains at large.

In response to the escalating crime, Mayor Eric Adams has acknowledged the alarming statistics and is exploring new technology to boost security in the park. Drones are being considered as a potential solution to enhance safety and provide a sense of security for parkgoers.
"When something happens in Central Park, it becomes a huge international story, we are on top of it and the commissioner is responding accordingly," Adams said.
Other Crime Trends
Besides robberies, other crimes in Central Park are also on the rise. Felonious assaults have increased by 42.9%, and overall major crime has jumped by 46%.
