Car Nearly Swallowed by Sinkhole in Brooklyn After Water Main Break
Bath Beach residents woke up to a startling scene on Monday morning, as a water main break on Bay 37th Street near Cropsey Avenue caused a massive sinkhole.
The break occurred around 4:15 a.m. and resulted in a sinkhole that damaged multiple cars on the block. One car was seen partially submerged in the hole, while others sustained damage from the rushing water.
The NYPD arrived and requested a tow truck to pull the vehicle out of the sinkhole. Commuters in the area, particularly those using the B82 bus route, experienced delays due to the incident.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was able to quickly shut off the water supply and repair crews were dispatched to the scene.
The cause of the water main break is currently under investigation. This story is developing and we will update this article as more information becomes available.
