Car Explosion in Queens Damages Homes and Vehicles

An explosion in Queens on Friday morning damaged nearly a dozen homes and vehicles, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood. Surveillance footage captured the moment a parked car exploded just before 7 a.m. on 133rd Street near 131st Avenue in South Ozone Park.

The explosion, which authorities believe was caused by a malfunctioning pressurized cylinder in the car, shattered windows on five homes and five other vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Plumbing Business Tools Left in the Car

The car belonged to Dinell Harricharan, who owns a plumbing business with his family. Harricharan revealed that he had forgotten to remove tools and equipment from his car, including an acetylene tank used for soldering, the night before the explosion.

"We always take it out every evening and take it inside in a safe spot, in the garage. But last night for some reason we didn't take it out," Harricharan said.

The exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but authorities said foul play is unlikely.
