Brooklyn Senator Kevin Parker Shifts Focus to NYC Comptroller Race

Brooklyn Senator Switches Gears, Eyes NYC Comptroller Race

State Sen. Kevin Parker, who was initially considering a run for Brooklyn Borough President, has apparently shifted his sights to the open New York City Comptroller position. This move comes after Parker established a campaign committee for Comptroller, not Borough President, according to the New York City Campaign Finance Board website.

Parker had previously indicated interest in the Borough President race, but running for Comptroller might offer a less contentious path, as he would avoid facing an incumbent Borough President. With Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso opting for re-election, Parker seems to be exploring other options.

However, Parker's path to victory in the Comptroller race wouldn't be a walk in the park. He previously ran for the office in 2021, finishing sixth in the Democratic primary. This time around, he would face stiff competition from high-profile candidates like Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar, and New York City Council Member Justin Brannan.

It remains to be seen whether Parker will officially declare his candidacy for Comptroller, but his recent actions suggest a change in strategy.
