Brooklyn Bridge Rescue: NYPD Saves Man Who Flipped Them Off Before Dangling 100ft Above East River

Brooklyn Bridge Rescue: NYPD Saves Suicidal Man
On Saturday afternoon, NYPD officers performed a dramatic rescue of a man threatening to jump from the Brooklyn Bridge. The man, barefoot and agitated, even gave officers the middle finger before dangling precariously from the bridge's support beams over 100 feet above the East River.

The Incident:
The incident unfolded around 3:17 PM when police responded to reports of a man climbing on the bridge's exterior. He engaged in a standoff with officers for over an hour, during which he made several dangerous maneuvers, including hanging from the bridge's underside for nearly 20 seconds.

Witnesses described him as agitated, flailing his arms and screaming. Westbound traffic on the bridge was halted to allow emergency services access.

The Rescue:
After he pulled himself back up, officers from the Emergency Service Unit (ESU) were able to reach him and bring him to safety.

The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychological evaluation. No charges have been filed.
