Mejia faces charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter, along with criminal possession of a weapon. Police initially investigated gang activity or a fight as potential motives but are now exploring a possible connection to other recent stabbings in the area. This incident marks the third minor death in 2025.

The police released an image of the suspect prior to the arrest. Rijos resided in the Mitchell Houses complex.

This tragic event adds to the ongoing concerns about violence in the Bronx. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
