Anne Frank's Secret Annex Coming to NYC: An Immersive Exhibit Opens This January
The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is bringing a full-scale replica of Anne Frank's hidden annex to New York City. This immersive exhibit, titled "Anne Frank: The Exhibition", will open on January 27th, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, at the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan.
This is the first time a complete recreation of the annex will be on display outside of the Netherlands, offering visitors a unique and powerful experience. The exhibit will allow visitors to step inside the cramped rooms where Anne and her family spent over two years in hiding during World War II.

More Than Just a Replica: A Multifaceted Exploration of Anne Frank's Life
Beyond the replica annex, the exhibition will explore the broader context of Anne's life, from her family's time in Germany to their move to the Netherlands and the eventual decision to go into hiding. It will also delve into their discovery by the Nazis, their deportation, Anne's tragic death, and the post-war decision by her father to publish her diary.
The exhibit aims to portray Anne not just as a victim but as a complex individual, a young girl, a writer, and a symbol of resilience and strength. It will encourage visitors to contemplate the historical events that shaped her life.

A Timely Exhibition Amidst Rising Antisemitism
The exhibition arrives at a time of growing antisemitism and heightened global tensions. The Anne Frank House director, Ronald Leopold, emphasizes the importance of educating people to stand against hate and intolerance, especially in light of the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The exhibit will feature over 125 items from the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, including photographs, albums, artifacts, and even the Best Supporting Actress Oscar won by Shelley Winters for her role in the 1959 film "The Diary of Anne Frank."
