Amazon's New Food Hall: A Culinary Destination in NYC's Historic Lord & Taylor Building

The food hall trend in New York City is showing no signs of slowing down. Shaver Hall, a new 35,000-square-foot culinary destination, is set to open on the ground floor of the iconic Lord & Taylor flagship Hank building at 424-434 Fifth Avenue by 38th Street. This space is now owned and occupied by Amazon's corporate offices.

Amazon is partnering with a Texas-based food hall company on this project. The new food hall will boast two full-fledged restaurants, a couple of bars, and a total of 11 stalls, including one operated by F&F Pizzeria, the popular Carroll Gardens spot.

Other notable vendors include Chick Chick, a Korean-inspired chicken eatery, and Taqueria Al Pastor, a Mexican street food outpost.

The historical significance of the venue adds to the allure of Shaver Hall. The former Lord & Taylor flagship stood at this address for over a century before closing in 2019. Amazon purchased and renovated the building a few years later. Shaver Hall is named after Dorothy Shaver, the president of Lord & Taylor, a prominent figure in the department store industry.

While the food hall trend might not appeal to everyone, Amazon's involvement suggests that Shaver Hall will be a top-notch culinary destination. Expect a diverse range of cuisines and high-quality offerings, honoring the building's rich history.
