71-Year-Old Woman Fights Off Subway Attackers
On New Year's Day, a 71-year-old woman, Linda Rosa, bravely fought off four teenage girls who attacked her on a Brooklyn subway platform. The teens attempted to rob her, punching and stomping on her before Rosa, determined not to be a victim, fought back, grabbing their hair and subduing them until help arrived.
While Rosa suffered minor injuries, the incident highlights growing safety concerns on the NYC subway system. The teens, who are still at large, were captured on video smiling before the attack.
The attack comes amid a recent surge in subway crime, including a separate incident where a man was shoved onto the tracks and another where a woman was tragically burned to death. These incidents cast a shadow over Governor Kathy Hochul's recent claims of improved subway safety.
Despite the ordeal, Rosa displays remarkable resilience and forgiveness, stating, "They do not know what they do. It’s just teenagers acting foolish." However, she emphasizes the need for improved safety measures, declaring, "It could happen to anybody."
This incident underscores the ongoing debate surrounding safety and security in New York City's public transportation system.
