A London restaurant known for an open kitchen and a very online chef is taking over one of SoHo's old rooms. Eater NY reported that Thomas Straker's first restaurant outside the United Kingdom is opening at 59 Grand Street, at West Broadway, in the space that was Keith McNally's Lucky Strike.

Eater said a late-September opening was pushed to Saturday, Oct. 10. The room, as Eater describes it, puts the kitchen in the middle, with steel, green stone, leather banquettes and dark wood. The menu follows the modern British cooking, with Italian leanings, that defined the Notting Hill original, which opened in 2022.

What the restaurant says

Straker's own New York page lists the same address, 59 Grand Street, New York, NY 10013, and posts hours of noon to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m., Monday through Sunday. The page does not, on its own, state the Oct. 10 opening date. That date is Eater's report. The site does point people to careers@strakers.nyc if they want to work there, and it lists the London original at 91 Golborne Road.

SoHo has no shortage of imported restaurant brands. This one is worth knowing because of the room it replaces. Lucky Strike sat on that corner for decades. Whatever you think of the butter videos, the address is a real handoff, not a pop-up.
