- NWS Upton’s Friday morning discussion still points to steady to heavy rain through today, with the heaviest stripe east of the city on Long Island; Saturday turns sunny and cooler, then dry into early next week.
- Alternate-side parking is in effect Friday and Saturday, suspended Sunday, Nov. 8, for Diwali, and again Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day, per the city’s 2026 ASP calendar on NYC311.
- DOT’s preliminary weekend traffic advisory (Fri–Sun) lists overnight and daytime street closures across the boroughs for crane work, facade inspections and subway construction, including 10th Avenue near West 40th Street and Union Square West.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, NYPD may close Park Place, Ralph Avenue, Fulton Street and New York Avenue in Brooklyn for the 8th Annual Veterans Appreciation Parade and Resource Fair, DOT says.
- Confirm live ASP status on NYC311 or @NYCASP; the weekend advisory is preliminary and can change Friday afternoon.
Friday is the wet day of the stretch. The National Weather Service office in Upton said in its 3:52 a.m. Area Forecast Discussion that steady to heavy rain returns across the eastern half of the region today, with the heaviest stripe aimed mainly at central and eastern Long Island and southern Connecticut. The New York City metro still sees meaningful rain — the first in some time — but totals stay lower than those eastern bands. The Central Park forecast calls for rain and a chance of thunderstorms into the afternoon, a high near 67, then a chance of leftover showers Friday night before skies improve.
Weekend turns cooler and mostly sunny
By early Saturday, drier and cooler air moves in. NWS expects sunny skies Saturday with a high near 63, then sunny again Sunday near 61, with overnight lows mainly in the low 50s. Temperatures stay a touch above average for early November, and a breezier northwest flow picks up into Sunday.
Alternate-side parking: Diwali Sunday, Veterans Day Wednesday
Street cleaning rules are in effect Friday and Saturday. They are suspended Sunday, Nov. 8, for Diwali, and again Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day, according to the city’s 2026 ASP suspension list on NYC311. On Sundays, ASP is already off and parking meters are not enforced. When ASP is suspended for a holiday, the break runs from midnight the day before through midnight of the holiday itself; other posted parking rules still apply. Check NYC311 or @NYCASP for unplanned snow or emergency suspensions.
DOT weekend street closures
The Department of Transportation’s preliminary weekend traffic advisory for Friday through Sunday lists dozens of temporary closures for crane work, facade inspections, utility jobs and subway construction. Highlights include:
- Manhattan: 10th Avenue between West 39th and West 40th Streets closed 1–7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday through Nov. 15 for steel erection; East 15th and East 16th Streets by Union Square closed 4 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Nov. 14 for boom-truck building inspection; overnight work near Grand Central on East 47th and 48th Streets for the train-shed project.
- Brooklyn: Nostrand Avenue between Clifton Place and Greene Avenue closed 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 20 for crane work; Joralemon Street between Court and Adams closed 9 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday for MTA accessibility work at Borough Hall.
- Queens: Liberty Avenue and nearby 99th–100th Streets closed for long weekend track-replacement windows under MTA contracts.
DOT posts a preliminary list early in the week and updates it Friday; emergency closures are not included.
Saturday veterans parade in Brooklyn
On Saturday, Nov. 7, DOT says streets may close at NYPD’s discretion for the 8th Annual Veterans Appreciation Parade and Resource Fair, including Park Place between Howard and Ralph Avenues, Ralph Avenue between Park Place and Fulton Street, Fulton Street between Ralph and New York Avenues, and New York Avenue between Fulton and Atlantic.
