Key points
  • The 82nd annual Columbus Day Parade steps off Monday, Oct. 12, at 11:30 a.m. from 44th Street and heads north on Fifth Avenue to 72nd Street, with festivities running until about 3 p.m., amNewYork reported. Last year's parade was canceled because of severe weather.
  • NYC DOT lists Fifth Avenue closed from 42nd to 79th streets Monday, along with East 43rd to 47th streets between Madison and Sixth avenues and several Upper East Side cross streets, at the NYPD's discretion.
  • Alternate side parking rules are suspended Monday for Columbus Day, but parking meters remain in effect, according to the city's 2026 ASP calendar.
  • New York City public schools are closed Monday for Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples' Day, according to the NYCPS calendar. Subways run on a regular weekday schedule, amNewYork reported.
  • After Sunday's rain from the remnants of Isaias, the National Weather Service expects a chance of early showers Monday, then mostly sunny skies and a high near 70.

The Columbus Day Parade is back on Fifth Avenue on Monday, Oct. 12, a year after heavy wind and rain washed out the 2025 march, amNewYork reported. Tens of thousands of people are expected to line the route, according to amNewYork.

When and where

  • Start: 11:30 a.m. at 44th Street, with marchers heading north on Fifth Avenue to 72nd Street. Festivities are expected to run until about 3 p.m., according to amNewYork.
  • Nearest subways: 42 St-Bryant Park (B, D, F, M and 7) and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center (B, D, F and M), amNewYork reported. Subways run on a regular weekday schedule Monday.
  • On TV: ABC7 New York carries the parade live starting at noon.

The Columbus Citizens Foundation organizes the parade, which ABC7 says is the 82nd. This year's grand marshal is Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates. Marking the nation's 250th year, the parade's theme is "Two Flags, One Home," a nod to the American and Italian flags, according to amNewYork.

Street closures

NYC DOT's weekly traffic advisory lists these closures for Monday, at the NYPD's discretion:

  • Fifth Avenue from 42nd Street to 79th Street.
  • East 43rd Street between Madison and Fifth avenues, and East 44th through East 47th streets between Madison and Sixth avenues.
  • East 72nd Street through East 78th Street east of Fifth Avenue, and Madison Avenue between East 68th and East 76th streets.
  • Several other cross streets near the route, including East 51st Street between Fifth Avenue and Rockefeller Plaza and East 58th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
  • Downtown, Broadway between Liberty Street and Battery Place, for a Columbus Day festival.

DOT also has a special-event construction embargo in place for the parade weekend, Oct. 10 through Oct. 12.

Sunday: two more parades

Sunday brings its own closures. DOT lists Fifth Avenue between 43rd and 72nd streets, plus nearby side streets, for the Hispanic Day Parade, and Morris Park Avenue and Williamsbridge Road in the Bronx for the Bronx Columbus Day Parade. Both fall on a wet day: the remnants of Isaias are expected to bring steady rain, heaviest in the afternoon and evening.

What's open and closed Monday

  • Parking: Alternate side parking is suspended for Columbus Day. Parking meters remain in effect, according to the city's 2026 ASP calendar.
  • Schools: NYC public schools are closed for Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples' Day, according to the NYCPS 2026-27 calendar.
  • Subway: Regular weekday schedule, according to amNewYork.

Parade weather

The National Weather Service forecast for the city calls for a chance of rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Monday, then a slight chance of showers until about 11 a.m., before skies turn mostly sunny with a high near 70.
