About this event
NYBG's first Día de los Muertos celebration (Oct. 3 to Nov. 2) peaks on Sunday, Nov. 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. The day opens with wearable art-making, then a 2 p.m. parade led by Son Pecadores musicians and dancers and Mascara Viva's giant puppets, including La Catrina, skeletons and monarch butterflies. MAZarte Dance Company performs music and dance from Veracruz at 2:30 p.m. on the Daffodil Hill Main Stage, followed by a cumbia sonidera class and a dance party until 5 p.m. The parade is canceled in bad weather, but the rest goes on. Visitors can add a photo or written memory to the communal ofrenda.
