Wrong-way driver charged with vehicular manslaughter in West Shore Expressway crash that killed Todt Hill woman, 66

Police identified the victim as Duck Park, 66, and charged the Range Rover driver with DWI and vehicular manslaughter, SILive.com reported. A second New Jersey driver was also arrested on a DWI charge.

Police have charged the wrong-way driver in Saturday's deadly crash on Staten Island's West Shore Expressway with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, and identified the woman who was killed as Duck Park, 66, of Todt Hill, SILive.com reported Sunday, citing an NYPD spokesperson.

Charges

The Range Rover driver, a 36-year-old woman from Somerset, N.J., was traveling north in the expressway's southbound lanes when she hit Park's Kia Seltos head-on near Exit 8, the South Avenue exit, at about 5:35 a.m., police said. She was charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a breath test, according to SILive.com.

The driver of the southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee that then struck both vehicles, a 21-year-old woman from Sayreville, N.J., was also driving while intoxicated and was arrested, police told SILive.com. The charges are accusations; neither driver has been convicted.

What happened

The crash happened at about 5:36 a.m., PIX11 reported. According to police, the Range Rover hit the Kia, which was heading south, and the Jeep then struck both the Kia and the Range Rover, ABC7 reported.

Park was pronounced dead at the scene. The two drivers who were charged were taken to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition, along with two passengers in the Jeep, a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, police said.

All of the drivers remained at the scene, according to police. The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
