The team that made Christmas cocktail bars a December ritual is trying the same trick for Halloween. The Haunting, a new pop-up from Miracle Cocktails Inc., has taken over The Cabinet Mezcal Bar at 649 E. Ninth St. in the East Village.

Miracle Cocktails, which runs the Miracle and Sippin' Santa holiday pop-ups, announced The Haunting in August as its first concept outside the Christmas season. The East Village bar is its flagship and opened Oct. 1, according to the company. Participating bars elsewhere are hosting their own versions.

What it's like

The company says the idea draws on childhood haunted houses, glowing jack-o'-lanterns, vintage Halloween decorations and late-night horror movie marathons. Inside, expect cobwebs, crawling spiders and creepily arranged dolls, amNewYork reported.

The menu, developed by Miracle Cocktails vice president Joann Spiegel, has nine cocktails, one shot and two spirit-free options, according to amNewYork. The Clown Pear-anoia comes in a black-and-white clown head and mixes mezcal, aperitif wine, French bitter, pear, fennel, yogurt and lemon. The Liquid Lobotomy, served in a cracked doll's head, combines a house rum blend, falernum, pumpkin-spiced pineapple, lime and aromatic bitters. Other drinks include the Widow's Whisper, Scream-sicle and Poison Apple. The seasonal shot comes with a collectible Haunting shot glass, and themed mugs are for sale.
