Key points
  • As of Monday, Oct. 19, a one-way NYC Ferry ticket costs $5, up from $4.50 (NYC Ferry, ABC7).
  • The 10-trip pack goes from $29 to $30, which works out to $3 a ride, matching the subway and local bus base fare (ABC7).
  • Discount Program one-way tickets, including student discount tickets, rise from $1.45 to $1.50, half the MTA base fare (NYC Ferry, ABC7).
  • The unlimited two-day ticket, a pilot since late 2025, is now permanent and stays at $15 (ABC7).
  • NYC Economic Development Corp., which runs the system, cites higher operating and fuel costs (ABC7).

Riding NYC Ferry costs a little more starting today. As of Monday, Oct. 19, a one-way ticket is $5.00, up 50 cents from $4.50, according to NYC Ferry's fare-change notice and ABC7.

What changed

  • One-way ticket: $5.00 (was $4.50).
  • 10-trip pack: $30.00 (was $29). That is $3 a ride, the same as the base fare on subways and local buses, ABC7 reported.
  • Ferry Discount Program one-way: $1.50 (was $1.45), half the MTA base fare. The new price also applies to Student Discount Tickets, NYC Ferry said.
  • Two-day unlimited ticket: still $15, and no longer a pilot. The pass, introduced in late 2025, is now permanent, according to ABC7.

Why

The city's Economic Development Corporation, which oversees the ferry network, pointed to rising operating and fuel costs as the reason for the increase, ABC7 reported.

Who still pays less

The Ferry Discount Program covers older riders, people with disabilities and Fair Fares enrollees, among others, and as of Sept. 1 it was expanded to include all New York City middle school students, ABC7 said. Details on eligibility and how to sign up are on NYC Ferry's ticketing page.

Tips for riders

If you ride a few times a week, the 10-trip pack is now the cheapest regular option at $3 a ride. Visitors or anyone planning a day of island-hopping may come out ahead with the $15 two-day unlimited ticket. Check the NYC Ferry app or the ticketing page before you buy, since ticket rules (such as transfers and expiration) are set there.

The ferry fare is set by the city, separately from the MTA's subway and bus fares.
