The match
Gotham hosts Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 12:30 p.m. at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, N.J., in the first round of the NWSL playoffs. Gotham is the No. 1 seed and Seattle is No. 8, according to the club's ticket page.
Gotham clinched its first NWSL Shield, given to the league's regular-season champion, on Sunday, after a season in which it set club records for points, wins and shutouts. The top seed gives it home-field advantage in the quarterfinal and semifinal. The club won the NWSL championship in 2023 and is going for a second straight title and its third in four years.
"Sports belong to the people," Mamdani said in the announcement. The administration has offered similar deals this year, including $15 tickets to the Queens Classic at Citi Field, where 42,175 fans watched Gotham beat the Washington Spirit, the club said, a record for a women's sporting event in New York City. It has also made free or discounted tickets available for World Cup matches, the US Open, Broadway, the Met Opera and the TCS New York City Marathon grandstands, the mayor's office said.
Coming to Queens
For now Gotham plays in New Jersey. Starting in 2028, it will make Etihad Park, New York City FC's soccer-specific stadium next to Citi Field in Queens, its permanent home, the club and the city said. The club says the stadium will be reachable by the 7 train, LIRR, Metro-North and NJ Transit.
