Giants 27, Texans 21 (OT)
The Giants won in Houston when Devin Singletary ran 30 yards for a touchdown on the play after Cam Skattebo broke off a 42-yard run, ABC7 reported. Houston had the ball first in overtime and went three-and-out.
It was a rebound game for Skattebo, who had no touches a week earlier after a costly overtime fumble two weeks ago. He finished with a career-high 124 rushing yards on 17 carries, including a 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that put the Giants up 21-14, according to Giants.com. The Texans tied it on a C.J. Stroud touchdown pass with under a minute left in regulation.
J.J. McCarthy, making his first start for the Giants after coach John Harbaugh benched Jameis Winston, went 20 of 28 for 252 yards. He hit two passes of 40-plus yards in the first quarter, to Malik Nabers and rookie Malachi Fields, amNY reported. Nabers had 7 catches for 111 yards, his fourth straight 100-yard game, the team said. The Giants ran for 188 yards as a team, a season high.
The game was closer than it needed to be: rookie kicker Dominic Zvada missed field goals from 56 and 44 yards. The defense held Stroud to a season-low 153 passing yards.
Next: at 4-2-1, the Giants lead the NFC East and are off next week. After the bye they play at Philadelphia and then host Washington on Thursday Night Football, according to Giants.com.
Dolphins 28, Jets 25
At MetLife Stadium, the Jets fell behind 21-7 by halftime and never led, losing to a Miami team that came in 0-5. Malik Willis threw two touchdown passes to rookie Caleb Douglas, including a 63-yard catch-and-run that made it 28-17 with 4:44 left, and ran for another score, ABC7 reported. He then ended it by pushing ahead for 2 yards on fourth-and-1.
Geno Smith went 23 of 30 for 287 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Tight end Mason Taylor caught two touchdowns plus the 2-point conversion that made it 28-25 with 3:24 left, and rookie Omar Cooper Jr. had 115 yards and a score, according to the Jets. Braelon Allen ran for 104 yards.
The turning point came early in the fourth quarter. Trailing 21-14, the Jets had first-and-goal at the 1 but lost yardage on two runs, then took a sack, and settled for a field goal. Jason Sanders had also hit the upright on a 40-yard try in the third quarter. "Highly disappointed, disappointed in myself," coach Aaron Glenn said afterward, according to the team.
The Jets are 2-5, and they have not won an AFC East game under Glenn, amNY noted. ABC7 put Glenn's division record at 0-8.
