SantaCon NYC 2024: A Boozy Christmas Takeover
Thousands of Santas, elves, and other festive characters flooded Manhattan on Saturday for the annual SantaCon pub crawl. Starting in Times Square, the parade of merrymakers made its way through Midtown and the East Village, bringing a unique blend of holiday cheer and spirited revelry.
From Protest to Party
Interestingly, SantaCon's origins trace back to 1970s Denmark, where it began as a performance art protest against consumerism. Today, the NYC iteration has transformed into a beloved (or detested, depending on perspective) day-drinking tradition.
More Than Just Merriment
While many associate SantaCon with spirited holiday drinking, the event also raises money for several New York City charities, including the Dance Parade New York, Friends of Materials for the Arts, and the Lupus Foundation.
