Could NYC See a White Christmas?
New York City is experiencing its coldest weather in a while, and there's a chance of a White Christmas! A late snow shower is possible on Christmas Eve, mainly north and west of the city.
Snow Accumulation:
- NYC: A coating to half an inch possible between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
- Higher elevations: Up to 1 to 2 inches possible.
The system is expected to bring a quick moving round of light showers, lasting only two to three hours.
Will it be a White Christmas? An inch or more of snow on the ground is generally considered a White Christmas. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing in the afternoon, so it's uncertain whether the snow will stick around.
Christmas Day Forecast: Expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid-to-upper 30s.
The last White Christmas in NYC was in 2009, and historically, there's only an 11% chance of one.
